5 years

After being absent from social media for five years, so much has changed during that time.

First of all, we finally settled into our own cozy home and have moved back to the east. This house wasn’t our first choice, but after two years of searching, I’m grateful to have a roof over our heads. I really appreciate the convenience of the location—just a minute’s walk from the MRT station—though, of course, that comes with the downside of constant construction around us.

One of the main reasons for moving back to the east was to be closer to our parents. As our children grow older, our parents are aging too, and we never know how much time we have left together. It’s important to cherish these moments. My own father passed away during the COVID restrictions in 2020, and sadly, he never got the chance to meet my boy.

Another key factor was ensuring Qiqi gets into a good primary school. Mr. Hub and I had different views on this, but I was determined to have Qiqi attend Red Swastika, my alma mater. As Mr. Hub said, all schools in Singapore are good, but I believe that while we can’t control the paths our children eventually take, we can give them a strong start in their early years.

As for me, I’ve also moved on. After 14 years at Epson, I finally resigned at the end of 2022. It was a spontaneous decision—I quit before securing another job—but fortunately, luck was on my side. I received two great offers at once: one from a well-known MNC and another from a government agency. Both fit my criteria, but I ultimately chose the government position. So now, I’ve been a civil servant for three years and hope to continue in this role for many more.

There have been many ups and downs over the past five years—both good and bad—but they have all shaped who we are today. We’re stronger than we were yesterday and certainly better versions of ourselves now. I’m truly grateful that our kids have grown up healthy and happy because, in the end, that’s what matters most, isn’t it?
